An aging couple, Ethel and Norman Thayer, arrive at their summer place on Golden Pond.  Their estranged daughter Chelsea shows up with her boyfriend Bill, and his thirteen year-old son, Billy.  Longstanding conflicts resume between father and daughter, and Billy eventually helps with their resolution.  Ethel is the stabilizing force in the family, but also has her moments with Chelsea.  She shows her deep love for her husband throughout the show, and Norman shows his shy side that he hides with crankiness.  These are emotions that everyone can relate to, and relationships that are common in every family.  A show filled with laughter, joy and tears, perfect to start the new season.
