1988 Winners List

Carousel caused a whirlwind and before it stopped it received 7 Zenons with Cabaret two Zenons behind with 5 awards and in second place.

Rogers and Hammerstein's New England musical twirled into first place while Kander and Ebb's view of Berlin in the '30's caught second place at the Third Annual Zenon Awards Ceremony, September 24, 1988. Frank Oberhausen's musical took 7 Zenons while Marian Dunham's dark view of life as a night club dragged in 5 awards.

Carousel's 7 Zenons included:

• Best Producer: Tena Conyer
• Best Set Design: Frank Oberhausen, Larry Wollangk, and Bob Given
• Best Costume Design: Charlotte Bell and Leena Violette
• Best Music Direction and Choreography: Carol Thurow
• Best Lighting Design: Frank Oberhausen
• Best Vocal Direction: Paul Roberts
• Best Sound Design: George Symonds

Cabaret's 5 Zenons included:

• Best Actor: Roy Riedy as Emcee
• Best Actress: Martile Blackman as Sally Bowles
• Best Supporting Actor: Victor Damigella as Herr Schultz
• Best Play: Marian Dunham
• Best Stage Manager: Janet Waldron

Barefoot in the Park's 2 Zenons:

• Best Supporting Actress: Jo-Ellen Crews as Mrs. Banks
• Best Director: Peter Pollard

California Suite's 1 Zenon:

• Best Sound Design: George Symonds

Board Service Awards were presented to:

• Diane Arch: For service with the Production Committee, Wardrobe maintenance, Membership and Patrons Committees, revisions and updating of the mailing list.
• Virginia Peck: For service with the Production Committee, Wardrobe maintenance, Membership and Patrons Committees, revisions and updating mailing list.
• George Symonds: For service with the Production Committee, Sound, Gourmet, and new stage construction.
• Ronnie Symonds: For service in building maintenance, Gourmet, and new stage construction.

A P/T Discretionary Award was presented to:

• Larry Wollangk: For achievement in developing fly system and set construction

The 3rd Janelou Buck Significant Achievement Award was presented to Frank Oberhausen for his stellar contributions to the theater
