The Scarlet Pimpernel and Jesus Christ, Superstar, share top honors in a militant race
The Nineteenth Annual Zenon Awards will be remembered for the tie between the Revolutionary musical play The Scarlet Pimpernel by debuting director Jennifer Westergom and the revolutionary character of Jesus Christ, Superstar in the Rock Opera of the same name by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, directed by veteran director, Tammie Pollard. Both plays were awarded seven Zenons by the enlightened voters. Mike Logsdon's British farce by Ray Cooney, Out Of Order, won two Zenons, which included another Zenon first, one of two Best Actor awards. Peter Pollard's Neil Simon play, Lost In Yonkers, captured the Best Actress Award. This year's ceremonies will be remembered for the quality of the plays that vied for recognition and the caliber of the entertainment that made the evening truly memorable.
The Scarlet Pimpernel's 7 Zenons included:The 19th Janelou Buck Significant Achievement Award was presented to Jet Hansen for his twenty-five years of distinguished contributions to Highlands Little Theatre.
